So these different listservs instead of one big listserv - what gives?

I decided to create a whole bunch of different regional and special-interest listservs this time around, because I don't want everyone just logging into the general listserv and because I want to encourage face-to-face event coordination and regional subversive activities. A special thank-you goes to all the people who participated in the Unamerican Listserv when it lasted in 1996-7. All y'uzzzall rock!

So anyway, each of these listservs will be moderated as soon as people volunteer to do this. That means that bozos, intruders (especially in the gendered listservs), etc. had better keep their shit undercover because they're liable to get kicked the fuck out. But free speech shall be the law of the listserv land, as long as that free speech doesn't get boring.

So what do you hope to achieve with this listserv thing?

I want these different listservs and the new ones I'll announce every few months to grow together and bond and turn into autonomous, self-directing cells within the larger Unamerican organism. I happen to think that the listserv is the greatest community tool ever conceived on the net, and the potential networked power of these listservs could kick the ass of the ruling class.

Are you going to harvest any of the listserv content for the website?

That's only possible if the listservs are monitored, but yes. That's the idea, to create a set of communities whose ideas are worth debating across them all. And so I need people to volunteer to monitor the listservs.

You look really tired, !!!srini. How are you doing? Do you need to sleep?

Yeah, I really do. But I'm making so much progress on the site, and the longer I take to finish this site the longer the orders will languish and al that other bad stuff. God, I have to remember to pay the rent today.

Things are sort of rough right now, aren't they.

Yeah. Sigh. I am really skating on the edge of giving up. I don't even know if this site will see the light of day, although I think the great probability is that I'll launch it and nobody will really care.

You fear that, don't you? That what you do with your life might wind up to be utterly irrelevant?

Well, two things there - I know that I have been relevant to people because they tell me every day through this site. I have created something valuable to a few thousand people and even if I accomplish nothing else in this life, that matters so very much. Second, well, yeah, I want my work to be relevant to people. I seriously want to impact people's lives for the better. But I am sort of beyond fear right now. The credit card companies can come and swallow me up; it would be a relief.

Listserv farm.

Yeah. Listserv farm. Important part of teh site for sure. Do they need to know anything else?

No, this one's a wrap. Stop tape. And !!!srini, why don't you take a nap?

I'm with you on that one, pardner.
